MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Samuel Carr, SRNA

Meet Samuel, a second-year nurse anesthesia student at UT Health San Antonio with a story that started at age 13—and a journey that included hiking 213 miles through the mountains. 🏔️

At 13, Samuel was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and endured a painful series of failed blood draws. “I remember thinking, ‘I can do this better.’ That moment stuck with me and led me to this career, where I can use my own experience to help others feel more comfortable and cared for during difficult moments.”

Before starting CRNA school, Samuel and his wife spent a month hiking the 213-mile John Muir Trail—a once-in-a-lifetime experience and meaningful reset before diving into training. Now, he balances the demands of anesthesia school with his love of fitness, cooking, and spending time outdoors.

Samuel credits TxANA with connecting him to leaders and mentors who’ve shaped how he thinks about excellence and accountability. “Their example gives me something meaningful to work toward every day.” 🙌
