​The role of the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is vital to healthcare in Texas. CRNAs work as independent providers and are independently licensed and legally responsible and accountable for their own practices in Texas.

​They may practice as private practitioners on the basis of their own clinical privileges within hospitals or surgical centers; they may independently contract for the provision of anesthesia services in facilities; or they may be employed by a hospital, surgical center, a group of MDs, or a surgeon.​​

TxANA proudly celebrates Dr. Steve Leach, DNP, CRNA, recipient of the 2025 Professional Advocacy Award.

For nearly three decades, Dr. Leach has championed CRNAs at every level — in politics, in healthcare, and in our communities.

His leadership has extended far beyond the operating room. As Mayor of Bayou Vista and a Galveston County Health District Board Member, Dr. Leach used his platform to elevate nursing voices and shape community health policy.

A mentor to countless students and colleagues, Dr. Leach embodies the dedication, diplomacy, and courage that define true professional advocacy.
